Our Legacy
Since 1964, the Islamorada Junior Sailfish Tournament has celebrated the tradition of youth fishing in the Florida Keys. Originally a division under the Islamorada Sailfish Tournament, the event has introduced generations of kids to the thrill of offshore fishing, sportsmanship, and conservation.
For 61 years, families and captains have come together to pass down skills, honor the ocean, and shape the next wave of anglers. The IJST is more than a tournament, it’s a living piece of Florida Keys history.

2024 Highlights
Last year’s 60th anniversary tournament was one for the books. Cold and windy conditions didn’t slow down our anglers, who brought in impressive releases and big fish across the board. From sailfish to tuna to kingfish, the spirit of competition was alive and well.
Highlights included Carter’s 15.19 lb Kingfish, Andy’s 14.5 lb Tuna, and Makinley’s 6 lb Dolphin. In the end, Carter took home Grand Champion Angler honors aboard Slamtime, while Contagious secured Grand Champion Team.
Tournament Weekend
The fun kicks off with a welcome party at The Sandbar at Whale Harbor, where anglers meet, swap stories, and prep for the days ahead. Fishing begins the following morning, with lines in at first light and weigh-ins after the day’s action.
The final day brings more time on the water before everyone gathers for the awards banquet. Winners are celebrated, raffles are drawn, and silent auction items are wrapped up — all against the backdrop of an iconic Islamorada sunset.
RULES
ENTRY FORM

Powered By Passion
The Islamorada Junior Sailfish Tournament operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Our goal is to keep entry costs low so every junior angler has the chance to compete. That’s why we rely on sponsors, raffles, and silent auctions to fund the event.
Every dollar raised goes right back into the tournament. A portion of proceeds is also donated back to the community, ensuring that the tradition of giving runs as deep as our fishing roots. Your support helps sustain this legacy and inspire the next generation of fishermen and women.
Fueling The Future
Behind every junior angler’s big catch is a community of sponsors who make this tournament possible. From gear and prizes to financial support, our partners help us keep this 61-year tradition alive while making the experience unforgettable for the kids.
Sponsor contributions also fuel our raffles and silent auctions. Supporting IJST means you’re part of something bigger — preserving a legacy, inspiring the next generation, and making waves that matter.
